Well, I’m four days into a painting project that might never end and I’m trying to keep my eye on the prize because, ya’ll, I’M TIRED OF PAINTING! This paint job has been so tiring! I wanted to have the whole room the same color – ceiling, trim, everything. And after I started, it became clear that all the trim was going to need three coats. There is a TON of trim because we have a tray ceiling. If I had a million dollars, I’d get rid of that tray ceiling but, alas. I think I have about three more days of painting left. *fingers crossed*. Oh AND I’m allergic to paint. Well, my face is – it’s rashy and itchy and swollen. I’m living on Benadryl, hydrocortisone cream, and cold facial rollers.

In all of our previous homes, our primary bedroom has been the last room to get attention. And frankly, in this home, it’s at the bottom of the list again because we have a huge kitchen renovation coming this year. But I also know that our entire first floor is going to be a disaster area for a few months and I wanted my husband and I to have a safe haven – somewhere we could go to escape the chaos. I’ve been slowly making changes in our room – first, by finding some chic mid-century modern three drawer dressers that we’re using as nightstands. We moved our old nightstands (themselves relics of the mid-century) down into our guest room. Our dressers, part of the same set as the nightstands, were moved into our boys’ rooms. I’ll eventually refresh those pieces but not anytime soon. I got some cool plug in sconces, which freed up surface area on the new dresser/nightstands – less clutter – and look so good with the new wall color.

So what’s left to do in there? At some point, I want to revamp our headboard. We’ve had it for about 13-14 years, so it’s time for a little makeover. I don’t think I will get that project done before the chaos starts – mostly because I can’t make a damn decision. In my head I envision a channel tufted headboard in a neutral color. I want to get some art work up in there and I think it would be fun to do a tone-on-tone mural of some kind – peep Liz Morrow’s recent laundry room (you can find her on IG @liz.morrow) – to give it some visual interest without being overwhelming. I would also love to put some lined bamboo shades but again, $$$$. Until then, I’ll be rocking the white plastic blinds. I took a trip to IKEA and found these beautiful golden yellow curtains that contrast so well with the deep green wall color! Plus, they pull in the yellow from my $8 thrift store find that was my whole inspiration for this room.

I also want to replace the ceiling fan. I’ve dreamed of a beautiful chandelier but I can’t decide if I’ll regret not having a ceiling fan. We live in the south, so that is a very real possibility. But man it sure would be nice to have a fancy-looking light in there. I asked Husband if he’d be able to swap our ceiling fan out with the chandelier from our bathroom but he didn’t seem thrilled with the idea. I can’t shake the feeling that I got the chandelier wrong for the bathroom but we spent so much money on it that I want to use it somewhere else in the house.
