The couch I regret buying and some I’m eyeing

Our prior couch, our first ever couch purchase, lasted us 14 years. It was amazing but we wanted something a little different. Almost four years ago, we bought a Paxton sofa and two Paxton side chairs from Arhaus. They were gorgeous, and so spendy! In 2018 (excluding delivery and sales tax), we spent about $5000 for the couch and two chairs. You may remember them from the kitchen renovation from our old house below.

But honestly, we haven’t been pleased with how the couch has held up for us. It gets a lot of use – it’s our primary couch. But we don’t have young kids climbing all over it, the dog doesn’t get on it (unless he sneaks up there when he thinks we’re not looking), you get the idea. The back cushions got so saggy that last year I bought two boxes of polyfill, opened up those cushions and restuffed them! The seat cushions aren’t as supportive as they used to be and I haven’t quite figured out a way to fix them. I’m afraid if I use polyfill it will feel lumpy.

I will say that I’ve been happy with the fabric. We didn’t do any upgrades on fabric treatments or anything. We clean up spills right away and I find that Folex takes care of just about any stain you can throw at it.

And then we decided we’d had enough. We hate sitting on it. It’s tough because we spent SO MUCH MONEY for it not to last how we wanted it to. We probably should have sold the couch and chairs before we moved to NC but in hindsight, I’m glad we didn’t because the pandemic delays would have had us sitting on the floor for a very long time! We recently ordered a new sofa that we *hope* holds up better for us over the long term. It’s a sofa with attached chaise that we think will fit into our space a little better. We’re keeping the side chairs for now and they’ll be repurposed in other areas of the house.

Here are some of the couches I was eyeing, which one do you think we picked?
