An Entry Bench with Scrap Wood

We have a very small ‘mudroom’ entry from our garage into our home and this was the perfect place to put a small entry bench. I didn’t want to spend a ton of money and I wanted it to be fairly simple. And we just happened to have some leftover wood from building the desk top for our office – yay scraps!

After we decided what size we wanted the bench, Husband assembled it using his Kreg jig – possibly his favorite tool (here’s a very basic, bare-bones one) – then sanded it with increasingly finer sand paper until it was as smooth as a baby’s bottom. Then we finished with a few coats of our favorite Polycrylic in Satin finish. Finally was attaching the hairpin legs – and voila! Entry bench complete! And no, I didn’t ‘style’ it with random stuff that doesn’t actually go there. This bench is for sitting to put your shoes on and there isn’t room for more than that.

While browsing Etsy one day looking for art, I came across this boot print and I knew it would be perfect with the new bench – a nod to the boot tray that normally lives under the bench. I bought the digital print for $4 and then had it printed though I can’t remember where now! I put it in this frame and I love it! That door to the left is our laundry “room”. I think it is technically a room because it has a window and a door but there’s barely room for the washer/dryer and utility sink. It’s tough considering we just left an amazing new laundry room – but it’s ok – I’m thinking of some fun plans for the laundry room at some point. It will involve board and batten, wallpaper, and fabric!

This space is definitely not done. The flooring in here will get replaced with the kitchen renovation this summer and I’ll have the walls repainted. They’re currently SW Sea Salt we inherited from the previous owner, a lovely color, but I’m ready for something fresh and new, ya know? But here’s to embracing what you have and finding joy in your home now.
