Dining Table Roundup

March 22, 2022

I’m calling this a roundup but really, it’s kind of a wish list. I grew up in a family with a modest income. As an adult, I now understand some of the sacrifices my parents made so that we didn’t feel it very much. But even still, we definitely did not do splurges. We bought clothes on sale, definitely not name brands (again, unless it was on sale), kept the same furniture FOREVER, had modest (but still fun) family trips, etc. This mentality still sticks with me and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Except that I think it has made me keep home items that don’t really serve us for WAY longer than we should, like our dining set.

Here’s our current dining set, this is from the real estate listing photo, please do not copy or reshare this photo.

In our previous home before we renovated our kitchen, we needed a very narrow dining table and we chose benches for the sides so that they could slide underneath the table, preserving precious walkway space in our tiny dining area. After we renovated, the table still worked pretty well for us in the new space – it kind of blended in and didn’t take up a lot of space. In our current home, we have a semi-open-concept dining room that I can’t quite figure out how to deal with. It has picture moulding on the lower part of the walls and I’ve been unable to find matching moulding to create matching picture frames on the upper part of the walls. The dining room also isn’t used for other purposes so I really feel like it needs to have a bit more substance to it.

You’ll remember from this post that I replaced the chandelier and that helped a little. I’m still hunting for moulding – who knows when I’ll find it. But the more I stare at the dining room, the more I’m convinced our dining table isn’t “it” anymore. And I know Husband is going to shoot daggers at me (he just found out about and started reading my blog last week) but it’s true. I don’t love the table anymore. We’re not in a position to buy another one (remember, huge kitchen renovation this summer?) but that doesn’t stop me from trying to imagine what IS the right table. And frankly, until I’m certain on what I want to do in that room, I don’t want to buy anything else.

So, I thought it would be fun to do a little roundup of the dining tables that have caught my eye in the past few months. I’ve seen number 7 on several popular websites. Will I end up with any of them? Who knows?! But it’s fun to “window shop” sometimes. Do you have a favorite?
